BIOGRAPHY

Cocomir Talarn (Lerida) 1931.

Cocomir one of Spain´s most highly acclaimed artists, is, in the words of Carlos Arean, Director of the Spainish Museum of Contemporary Art, ´the Master of Form´.
With an untiring creative energy spanning over sixty years, his work continues to develop and evolve, inspire and enlighten. His compulsive desire to create has led to an incredible array of work, which includes sculpture, reliefs, jewellery, canes, lighting and furniture.

Trained as an architect, and recommended by Le Corbusier to work for Oscar Niemeyer in Brazil, he later collaborates with Piragibe da Fonseca. He moves from Rio de Janeiro to Sao Paulo and works with Da Rocha, Pinto and Netto.

He consequently abandons architecture and commits himself totally to sculpture, attracted to London by Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth and the Minimalists.
Introduced by Timothy Scott to Moore, with whom he works with for a short time, it is later with Joe Alberdi, Senior Professor at St Martin´s School of Art, with whom he learns and later collaborates.
He meets Herbert Read who introduces him into the art society and it is at the O´Hanna Gallery in London where he makes his first appearance as a sculptor.

He continues as a sculptor travelling and working throughout Europe. Finally settling in Sant Antonio de Calonge, near Girona, Spain, where he opens a window to the public minaturising his sculptures into gold and silver jewellery, his reliefs into mirrors and his formal studies into canes, pottery and furniture.

His passion and total commitment to the arts has led to his work being widely exhibited and sold throughout the world, his objects becoming increasingly valued and renowned.
His work is also on permanent display in various museums and private collections.
