Joan Raset, 1938 - Barcelona
Today I find it difficult to explain how I came to change my career.
My growing interest for the art in the decade of the years 70s let me to abandon my work and my training in technical architecture and change from linear drawing to artistic drawing.
I started attending the Sant LLuc fine Arts Circle and later the Real Circle in Barcelona.
The world of abstract painting was everything in those days and I also felt attracted to this discipline by creating assorted signs for discothèques and nightclubs in various fashionable cities along the coast. In those days I also devoted my time to painting portraits in pastels which was easy and more figurative work, and which must have unexpectedly made me the artist I am today.
At this time my pastel drawing had acquired a distinguished character and as a result Editorial Parrangón bought the rights to many of my educational sketches. They published them in different languages and distributed them to everyone by means of their books. "The female Nude in Pastel" is one of the most representative examples. This book, which I produced with Jordi Vigué, has uo to 180 of my drawings in it. I also published several books with Angela Berenguer such as "The Great Book of the Color", and with José Mª Parrangón himself I also produced exercises for "The Great Book of Pastels."
At the end of the 80s I started my oil paintings period, practically with the same concept and graphics as my pastel paintings.
In 1992 in the Miami Art Fair "Art-Miami" I met Sam Benady, an art dealer and gallery owner, and we began business relationship and a friendship which has continued up to today.
Currently I'm painting my own garden, in my home studio, next to the Mediterranean ... but my little suitcase is always ready
